Editorial Review for Fire + Ice – by Dawn Keable
In Short
The experience at this wildly colorful eatery goes something like this. Customers follow a cafeteria style line as they select fresh ingredients: first vegetables, then meats, then one of at least 10 different sauces. (Menu influences range from jalapenos and pomodoro to udon noodles and teriyaki sauce.) After the entree has been assembled, the concoction is handed off to the grill master who cooks it on a 10-foot circular grill.

Great place for a 16 year old boy to bring a new girl on their first date, horrible if you are particular about how you like your food cooked. I expected more from what I've heard about this place. All of the meat and shell fish come in frozen bags, the cooks dont understand the difference between well done and medium rare, and the service was terrible, we had empty plates cluttering our table that the wait staff ignored all night. The "Fire and Ice Ale" brewed by good ol Sam Adams is the only good thing about this overrated bbq.
Pros: Unique decor, you personally create your meal
Cons: Poor service, all food is overcooked

I've been here a few times and have always been happy with my meal. My most recent trip here was not so nice unfortunately. I started with a salad that contained a lot of grit. I stopped eating it after the first gritty bite. Obviously, they did not wash the lettuce properly which can be dangerous. Or, it was washed well and the grit entered the scene afterwards (I prefer to think the former was the case). My main meal was good. It consisted of different meats and vegetables and the carribean j--- sauce that I'm very fond of (I'd give the full name of the sauce, but citysearch won't allow the "j" word for some reason...rather odd since it's a common culinary term) . About 1.5 hours after I ate I started to feel very nauseas and dizzy. That persisted for about 48 hours. I called my doctor and she told me that it was probably caused by the food and that it would pass in a day or two, which it did. I'm not sure if was the salad or not, but I have decided to only have salad from places I believe will take great care in providing clean vegetables. Salad is raw so there's always a risk. Overall, I like Fire + Ice, but hope that they educate their staff on proper sanitation techniques. I'd give this place 3 stars if it didn't make me ill.
Pros: Good tasting, seeminly fresh food
Cons: Poor hygiene
