Hotels >Hyatt Regency Newport
We reserved a room for my parents at the Hyatt as a special anniversary / birthday gift. The reservations were made for a king size bed / view room. We also instructed the hotel to put all charges on the credit card that was used to make the reservation. When my parents arrived, they informed them that the King beds were all booked...all that was left were two double beds without a view. Thank goodness my father said that the reservations were for a King suite and he put his foot down to not accept what they were offering. They proceeded with offering a double queen size bed and said that's all that was available. The bathroom was extremely disappointing. The only way to hold the water in the tub was by putting a towel down near the drain. To make matters worse, they put all the charges on my father's credit card (which they required when he checked in). The room was on the first floor near the front desk. This is hardly the setting that I was hoping for when this reservation was made. The place itself was pretty shot...very surprising that the "Hyatt" name is actually associated with this hotel. There was duct tape holding down the carpeting in the main area and to be quite honest, the furniture was on par with the lesser motels that you might consider when driving cross country...not exactly a romantic celebratory setting. The only thing the hotel has going for it is the scenery outside the window...which is something the hotel can't quite fork up.
Needless to say, I will never, ever have anything to do with this hotel. I wish I would have checked out Citysearch for the other review to see how sad and shameful this place is. I am highly embarassed that I actually booked this reservation for my parents...I would have been much better off doing ANYTHING else.
What a surprise!!!.
Wow! This is a Hyatt? The rooms were so dirty and the carpet was AWFUL! To the point of being gross. We wore our socks and shoes the whole time we stayed there. I went and got bathroom cleaner and cleaned the bathroom myself....the tub had rings and filth. If you are someone who uses the Concierge, Forget it at this hotel! She was very rude and no help at all. We were so insulted by her behavior and unfortunately there were many peopled lined up behind us to complain. Honestly, as much as we paid, we expected more. The amenities at this hotel a MINIMAL at best!
The positives are the location is great. The view from the Island is beautiful. The pool was clean and the service in the pool area was good.
This hotel is set up to be exceptional..........just very very poor follow thru. We ate inside the hotel one night and the service was decent, the food was lousy and expensive. It looked and tasted as if we were being served left overs from the night prior. Plus the selection of food was minimal. We don't mind paying high prices, we just want the quality to be there.
The Pineapple out side bar/restaurant...again has a beautiful view, and wonderful sunset ceremony and great live entertainment. However, if you are hoping to eat.........service is LOUSY, minimal selection but taste is decent once you get it. I could go into more detail on this about the run around and LOUSY service, but I'm sure you get my point. If you want just a drink and to sit and watch the sunset.....it is a great place.
We will never stay here again. I loved the view and location, and again, it has GREAT potential, if managed correctly. You can get a great view anywhere in Newport. The hotel was just gross and service was so lousy. But if you go in to it knowing this is a possibility, then maybe you will enjoy your stay. I just had higher expections due to the name and the cost associated with this hotel.
