No need to burrow underground. Downtown's Tunnel Bar connects the local jet set to nightlife at street level..
The Scene
With an interior of blond wood, contemporary black leather seats and tiny electric blue lights overhead, the Tunnel Bar brings cosmopolitan New York attitude to Providence. As the night wears on, the crowd progresses from conservative after-work professionals to thirtysomething trendsetters looking to be seen.
The Booze
The smooth mood continues at the bar, where martinis are the drink of choice. Otherwise, go with a mixed drink from the full bar. Be prepared for the unexpected: You may have to send your drink back because it's too strong.
While You're There
The long, narrow room runs alongside the busy pathway connecting Kennedy Plaza to Waterplace Park, a prime people-watching thoroughfare, especially in the summer. Grab a stool at either of the two counters running along the glass-encased walls for a new view.
Where are the 20+?. Not for the younger crowd. Maybe if your 40+ and on your second or third marriage, you'd feel comfortable. Bar is filled with wannabe MILF's. Tough to get to the bar, it's so small. Name says it all.
cool place, very busy. This was a really great bar when it first came out, and it still is, but it just gets so busy. The people are an interesting mix, young and older, professional and partiers. It deserves to be a place that you should check out though if in providence.
