We feature specialties from across all of Mexico and take pride in our full flavored food. Whether you like your meals spicy, medium spice, or mild; we have it all. We have excellent starters, entre's, and desserts. Recently, we have begun serving brunch on weekends to spice things up.

Tips for Don Jose Tequilas

ok food, small portions and slow service. my boyfriend and i went to don J during Providence restaurant week thinking we'll get a deal. they indeed comped our first round of margaritas which was good. however the guacamole appetizer was 2 oz!, the ceviche had only tiny shrimp in it and the waiter was not very attentive.....could be much mach better!

Don Jose Tequilas Restaurant. Honestly, I had my 21st birthday there and it was the worst experience I have ever had. Not only was the service slow and unorganized, but the food was poor quality and does not fit the standards of federal hill. The waitresses put EVERYTHING on one bill for our entire party, even though some people already paid separately for some of their own drinks and food. So at the end of the night, we pretty much double paid for everything. I will NEVER go back to this place.

Never Again. We were quickly seated but then the server never came back. Our margaritas took forever and when we got them, they tasted like ice water with no flavor. We had to ask for chips and never got them. The food was not hot and had no flavor at all. There was also no pepper on the table so you could not even add flavor. Not sure if the regular chef that all these other people had food from was on vacation but this one should find another job. Very disappointed as we just moved to Providence and love Mexican food. We will not be going back again!

Authentic is the key word here!!!. Authentic Mexican cuisine is the actual description for Don Jose Tequilas. The food is great, the staff is super nice. It is the place to go with friends, family or partner. And let's not forget, it is the place to be on Cinco De Mayo. My friends and I go every year and we enjoyed it like it's our first time.

Visit & enjoy the BEST Mexican cuisine.
I have enjoyed Don Jose Tequilas many, many times. I have had great food every time I ate there. The margaritas are delightful. Don't forget to try their sangria and the many fine brands of tequila they offer. If you are unsure about anything, ask the staff. I have always found them to be polite, professional, fun and informative. Whenever I had a question about a meal or a brand of tequila, they took the time to find out what I like and made their suggestion.
This restaurant is the best Mexican restaurant in Rhode Island, without a doubt.

Great Mexican Cuisine in Providence.
Don Jose's was great! Considering the quality (and quantity) of food and drinks, ambiance, location and service I am rating this place a 5/5. It is one of the most original and authentic Mexican cuisines I have ever seen around the Providence area.
The variety of tequila they have behind the bar is amazing. My friends and I were walking around Federal Hill with the intent to have a few drinks before going to a local game. We stopped by Don Jose's which was the closest bar/restaurant to us near the end of Federal Hill and kind of tucked away - the place looks smaller than it really is from the outside and I love finding places that are gems tucked away.
The lighting was dimmed, and the tables and bar area glowed in a ruby/red color. The place was packed and everyone seemed to be having a great time. We walked in and were seated right away at the bar where we ordered drinks from a very friendly/outgoing/experienced bartender. We did not expect to A) be seated so quickly with so many people around, and B) get our drinks so fast.
The drinks were amazing. We ordered authentic Mexican appetizers, then entrees, then desert. Everything was very affordable - entrees between $14-$22 from what I remember. I would highly recommend the Molcajete Azteca which is a specialty containing sirloin, chicken, cactus, shrimp, chorizo, beans and a variety of spices - it was phenomenal.

Great food and drinks. Don Jose has excellent food. They have great margaritas too! The service is good. This place get pretty busy on weekends. Prices are reasonable.

Wonderful food, staff and atmosphere!. My Girlfriend and I arrived and were seated right away. Our server also came over quickly to greet us and take our drink orders. The margaritas were Muy Bueno! The food was excellent ! Great chips and salsa. My Burrito was the best I've had since moving to the northeast. I highly recommend this restaurant. I know Federal Hill is Italian but do not be fooled!!!

So-so food. Have been here twice: once for lunch and another time for dinner. The food is not that great. Service was good though.
