Cranston >Efendi's Mediterranean Cuisine
2 bites, NO TASTE, no effort...IM OUT!. 23 years in Cranston...and Efendi's does NOT represent us well. . . For my birthday dinner, and first time dining experience at Efendi's. . . it will be the last. I feel bad for my friend since she picked up the tab! Wednesday 11/30/2011, 7:10pm, 5 tables going, 3 waitresses, and the best thing we had was the cheap wine. CRAB CAKE app. $8.50 for deep fried greasy toothpaste consistency filled BLAH. VEAL MARSALA for $19 with blanched veggies with no seasoning, rice pilaf which was noodle rice from PRICE RITE, brown GELATINOUS gravy with no flavor on the Marsala??? $25 LAMB CHOPS, same sides, asked rare got it cooked WELL DONE, same BLAH gravy on it, size of a HALF DOLLAR... After $72 for 2 bites each, no Comp of the meal, and still hungry... I'd rather eat at Taco Bell.
TRHERE ARE MANY REASONS WHY IT WAS EMPTY ON A FRIDAY AT 8PM.
There were four of us and three wanted a full dinner entree but I only wanted something light. I ordered a pita sandwich with salad and the server told me that it was only available for lunch. I mentioned it didn't state that on the menu and she said it was a 2 week old menu and they hadn't fixed that mistake. The owner then came by as he was making what appeared to be his normal rounds of the tables. He asked me how things were and I told him, I wanted to order something light and wasn't in the mood for a full dinner entre and was surprised I couldn't get a pita sandwich. I asked what I could have that was light and he said the only light thing I could have was a salad. I told him I had a salad for lunch- could I have a pita sandwich and he said "sorry i can't do that." I asked why and (this is the amazing part) he said "I only make $2 dollars on the pita and how can I pay my rent if everyone orders a pita"? I said the salads are the same price as the pita ($8) and he said "salads cost me a dollar or two less" WHAT? Is an owner actually having this conversation with me when it's a Friday night at 8pm and he has only 10 people in the place? I told him that he might want to charge $10 for them so he can make what he needs to but to not offer something lighter on a dinner menu and accommodating customers doesn't make sense. We went back and forth for 5 mins then he said "alright, you can order it" I couldn't believe that I had to convince him. I told him that may only make $2 on my sandwich but he lost all future business from
me and my family. I ended up not getting anything but my family did and the food was dry, bland, greasy and EXPENSIVE! After all that- the food wasn't even good! And it took 30 mins for us to get our food and like I mentioned, there were only 10 people in the place. Needless to say- STAY AWAY FROM THIS RIDICULOUS RESTAURANT AND OWNER. I have been going to restaurants as an adult for 20 years and have been in the hospitality business and I can honestly say, the way this owner conducts business is atrocious- I have never seen such a thing before and probably never will in the future.
Almost two hours later & still waiting for our appetizer....
WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!!
The place is beautiful. On a Friday night there was live music and a lovely ambiance.
A group of six of us got there for 7:30. Five drinks were ordered. They did not have four of them. After 45 minutes we finally got our drinks and even then they were not correct. We did not even bother asking our waitress to correct them for fear it would take another 45 minutes.
After almost an hour and a half (8:50pm) we asked the hostess if there was a problem because we still had not even gotten our appetizers! Our waitress apologized and said it would be "right out." After almost another half an hour (9:15pm) we politely requested that our order be cancelled.
Efendi himself came out to apologize and offered to pay for the first round of drinks. It was too little, too late. My boyfriend and I cancelled our orders and went elsewhere to enjoy a delicious meal with excellent and quick service.
Our friends stayed because they were told that their appetizers and a round of drinks would be paid for and that their entrees would be "right out." I got a text from them later saying that they had left and gone down the road for dinner too.
I was hoping to go to Efendi's one Thursday to see my belly dancing instructor perform, but not even that could get me to set foot in Efendi's ever again!
45 minutes to get a drink that is not even what I ordered and 2 hours for an appetizer is unacceptable.
Worth a try.
I wrote a 4000 character, detailed review that was not accepted because it was too long. A waste of my time.
Some food was frozen, not fresh Steak was overcooked and tough, Kabobs overcooked and dried out. Eggplant plate had very little eggplant. Drinks were not mixed properly. Room was cold and fireplace didn't work. Good smoked eggplant and grape leaves. Stuffed pork was good. Wait staff were wonderful. Roll the dice and try it.

Good authentic food!!. Teribble Greek waitress with no manners!!
Great Customer Service. Great ambience and decor, very friendly waitstaff and servers, the maitre de even came out to great the guests. Awesome food for a good price, lots of menu choices.
awful customer service not authentic at all. Efendi restaurant is a beautiful place very romantic. But that is as far as it goes bellydancing night is on the third thursday of the month and it is quite entertaning I give credit to those girls getting up to dance. As far as the service I can' t complain about my waitress she has been their for 3 weeks and it was extremly busy. the menu was raised about 6-8 dollars a chicken plate that is normally 12.99 was 19.99 and their excuse was that if you didn't order an appetizer a $5 charge would be added. you do the math. The owner has no customer relation we had a situation with our bill by $6, salad was included with the entree the waitress forgot to tell us that their was and extra charge for ceasar salad even though they jacked up the price by $6-$8 and our waitress realized the problem and was willing to change it because she forgot to tell us but she needed to get approval from the owner. The owner approached our table and rudly made a comment "That is not our problem if you didn't read it "and brought the menu to us to see it in the small print that it was printed "we are not here to read everything for you" needless to say it wasn't about the $6. the waitress felt bad about what he said and overrode the $6. About the food being meditareanin it was not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! authentic at all the hummus was awful small potions the grape leaves had no flavor. Hot pocket in providence thayer steet have better food
A very special experience!.
I hesitate to write this review, because I don't want everyone clamoring for a seat there! This is by far my favorite restaurant. It is an experience from start to finish - from the neatly-attired and well-mannered waitstaff to the sumptuous decor to the outstanding cuisine to Efendi himself greeting you at your table. You simply won't find anything like it in any of the many "chain" restaurants sprouting across Rhode Island.
We love going to Efendi's for a simple yet elegant lunch, but also save it for a special occasion, like a birthday or an anniversary. We've learned so much about Turkish and Mediterranean food by trying new items on the menu (trust me, you'll love the kofte!)
Enough said. Go there - you'll forget you're on Cranston's Route 2 and think you've been transported to a magical, faraway place.
Something for Everybody.
We've visited this place several times over the last 2-3 years. The place made a great progress over time. The menu was extended form chiefly Middle-Eastern dishes to a delightfull blend of Middle-Eastern and Italian favorites. The appetizers are exellent, generous portions, and the home made half-sour Kosher Pickles are the best in Town.
We had an Osso Bucco - a special of the day - it was just right.
Exellent. I have visited Efendi's restaurant 4 times. Last night, my parents asked me where I would like to go for dinner for my birthday. I simply stated " I would like to go to Efendi's" Since they have never been there, they said we should go and try something new. From the front door service to the food the night was perfect!
