Westport >Abby's Dog Depot
Abby's cares about dogs. My dog never looked better when he goes to Abby's dog depot. He is a Bichion and the cut is a lot of work. Always comes home beautiful and happy.
Long Time Customer. Never Unhappy Even Once..
I think it's easy to get upset and jump online to write something negative, but easy to overlook consistently excellent service in the busy day to day. After jumping online to grab the new phone number for Abby's and seeing a few of the reviews I was shocked and opened a CitySearch account specifically to say how great I have found Abby's to be over the 5+ years that I and my family have been going there with all of our dogs.
I now bring my Giant Schnauzer there for his grooming and he comes back every time looking absolutely BEAUTIFUL. More importantly he is super happy. He actually gets excited to see the staff there and starts wagging his little tail in the car when we pull up. Giants require a great amount of time and skill to groom and Abby's really delivers for a fraction of the price I have been asked to pay when getting quotes from groomers closer to home. I acually drive over an hour to go here because it's worth it. I get compliments in the park on the dog's grooming for weeks after his appointment and many people I walk with get really disappointed when they find out how far away it is because they'd like to go.
In short... I nor anyone in my family has ever had a negative experience with Abby's in the better part of a decade of going there with multiple different dogs. Friendly, consistently courteous staff that have never been unprofessional with us. I LOVE this place and think it's worth every minute of the trip I take to use their services.
Not what it use to be. I took my dog there for months and loved it. In the last few months they have been taking too many dogs and their quality and care has diminished. They are getting way too overwhelemed and losing sight of what their business is really about. Not to mention the fact that they are completely unprofessional and will hire just about anyone to work there.
A Great Place With Caring People You Can Trust.
Honestly, we don't normally take the time to leave reviews - whether they are positive or negative. Instead, we tend to share our thoughts and opinions with those directly involved. We compliment people when we are satisfied, and we politely explain to them why, when we are not.
However, we felt it was important to voice our opinion and personal experiences at Abby's Dog Depot with the Citysearch community when a friend of ours said she had reconsidered bringing her dog to Abby's after seeing some of the reviews on this site. Previously, we had referred her to Abby's and were completely surprised when she told us this.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and that is why we feel it's so very important to voice ours now - to give credit where credit is due!
The staff at Abby’s Dog Depot has always been pleasant and very accommodating with us and our little girl. We would bring our collie there every 4-6 weeks, and she always came home looking beautiful and smelling great. They always took such good care of her. The staff had changed a bit since we first starting going there, but we have never met a staff member who wasn't an absolute doggie lover. They never rushed our little girl in or out, and were always professional in every which way.
Sadly, we lost her not too long ago. She was a part of our family, and over the years the staff at Abby's Dog Depot earned our total trust & loyalty. We knew that she was in good hands when we would leave her there. It was a good feeling, and our minds were always at ease.
Many of our family members continue to bring their dogs to Abby's, including our daughter. All of them adore the staff at Abby's and love the way their children come home after a visit to the doggie spa.
We never used the Daycare service, but our neighbor has been bringing her dog there since he was a pup and she swears by them. For over two years now, her dog has been going Tuesday - Friday, and she continues to ask for Mondays - but they're closed that day. Her dog loves going there, and we laugh sometimes when we see him hop in the car, and bounce around excitedly. It’s like he knows exactly where he’s going, and can’t wait to get there. Every time we’ve been there, the dogs in Daycare always appear to be happy, and we’ve never seen them left unattended. One gentleman in particular seems to really love his job. He talks about those dogs like they’re his adopted children.
They carry a lot of great products there too. Brands you can trust giving your dog, and at a price you can afford. Our daughter buys all of her dog food and leashes from them. The staff is also very knowledgeable in this area, and has always been willing to take the time to answer questions.
In closing, if we can offer anything, it's another point of view. Just like any review, don't take them at face value. If you don't believe us or still feel unsure, take your dog by Abby's and see for yourself. The staff there is amazing and we think you'll agree. After countless back & forth, our friend finally agreed to bring her dog to Abby's and she was so happy, she scheduled her appointments for the rest of the year!
lousy quality for the money.
I switched to Abbys Dog Depot after moving. The location was closer to my home, closer isn't always better. I have brought my dog here 4 times. The first time i brought my dog he came home with a fair haircut and bath. Not great but it wasn't terrible, just fair. As the other reviewers have said or implied, It was very busy there, too busy, I felt as though there was too many dogs and a lot of confusion. The second time I brought my dog, the groomer did not cut the dog to the directions I left with them, which they confirmed with me before I left. When I picked my dog up, I wasnt happy, because the hair cut did not follow the directions left. Despite this I realize mistakes happen.
The third time my dog came home with dirty ears!!! My dog never had his ears cleaned! Part of the grooming was the nails, ears, and glands if necessary. The final straw was the fourth time he came home with bloody nails, that were cut too short. Each grooming was $45 for a substandard job. A definite lack of attention to detail. They need to realize these are members of our family not simply stray animals, money is not everything!!! I would gladly pay a little more for a better job and a place that pays attention to detail and keeps my best friend safe.
I wish I had seen these reviews before I made the mistake of going there. We know what they say about being forewarned
Would not recommend. I would not recommend sending your dog to Abbys for daycare or grooming. They hire untrained people who DO NOT know how to work with animals and they expect your dog to basically watch themselves. If you are gonna pay $20 for someone to watch your dog for the day, then I would expect them to interact with them, and be part of the pack with them. Instead they are just thrown outside and not watched. they show you that they have cameras outside and tv monitors inside to keep an eye on them, but she has the same people that are supposed to be taking care of the daycare dogs, grooming dogs in the back, how can they pay attn to a tv screen out near the register, when they are in the back washing dogs??? As far as grooming goes, they take in a mass of dogs and groom them as fast as possible to make the most money. I have picked up my dog with bleeding nails that were cut way too short, and they obvisouly did not pay attention to the blood and just sent him home like that and it ended up all over my backseat. That is a clear sign that they rush their way through grooming if they cant even notice that they made a dog bleed. The owner herself has a little attitude problem whenever you have a complaint or concern. That is not good to keep business with that attitude. I will be taking my dog elsewhere. I hope you found this helpful and will not send you beloved pet there.
