Downtown hotel, chock full of turn-of-the-century New England flavor, provides an ideal base spot for those looking to explore or conduct business in Providence, with plenty of attractions and arts venues within walking distance.

Great hotel in downtown Providence

by HaroldG at Citysearch

We really like the Hotel Providence. In the midst of the huge hotels like the Westin and the Biltmore, this is smaller, cozier and overall very pleasant. Excellent, friendly staff. Great rooms. In Boston and NYC we stay in the big hotels, in Providence, its the Hotel Providence.

Short walk to the Providence Place Mall, Federal Hill, great resutaurants like Capital Grille, and our fave - 10 Prime Steak and Sushi. A couple of block walk to shows at PPAC, Lupo's or Trinity Rep. Would be just a little more than that to walk to Waterfire.

For a hotel only 7 stories tall, it's very quiet. We usually stay in the back but this time we were in the front. Only minor issue is the church bell from the gorgeous chuch across the street. Rings every hour (maybe every 15 mins?) from 8AM to 9PM. Only issue will be if you are on that side of the hotel and plan to sleep past 8AM. We stayed on a Sat night so on Sun morning, we heard not just the bell but a few hymns ahead of Sunday 10AM Services. That was very nice.

We ate lunch and breakfast in the restaurant Aspire. Not bad. They have a nice garden area outside. Sitting outside for lunch on a sunny day listening to a guy playing the guitar singing Billy Joel and Simon and Garfunkel was very relaxing.

Some cute shops and restaurants a few blocks away from the hotel, but, the economy has hit RI hard. Each time we are there are more stores and restaurants that have gone out of business. So the neighborhood is a bit downtrodden.

Overall a great place to stay.

  • Pros: close to shows, restaurtants, shopping. Cozy, quiet hotel.

The Little Hotel That Slams a Home Run

by Hurakan1780 at Citysearch

We had spent the last week on our friends yacht down in Newport Harbor, and left there to see a bit of Providence before heading back home. My wife checked out City Search to find a nice hotel, and after checking out the reviews and prices, we chose the Hotel Providence and what a wonderful experience it has turned into. From the Front Desk Manager, Mat, to our Bellman, Brad, to our favorite bartender Ali, wow what wonderful service we have had the pleasure to enjoy. Please, if you want your own special place, check-in here and just say ahhhh... we sure did and I bet you will as well. Trust me, we love the Westin, and other big hotels, but this was "just right".

  • Pros: Service, Service, Service
  • Cons: We couldn't stay in town any longer to enjoy this place

Wonderful Experience

by annef at Citysearch

This boutique hotel is perfect if you are looking at spending a weekend in Providence, if you like the theater and the museums in the area. I loved that it is not part of a chain, and it shows because the service is so personalized. I still don't know how the front desk staff knew my name even if I hadn't seen them before. The rooms are incredibly clean and beautifully decorated, and the amenities are luxurious. They have Molton Brown toiletries, bathrobes, and when I asked for toothpaste it was brought to me within 2 minutes.

L'Epicureo has amazing food and attentive service. I definitely recommend this hotel for everything it offers!

Bittersweet?

by rcarr77 at Citysearch

Having gone to college in Providence, my husband and I decided to take a weekend away before the summer ended and decided on Providence. We heard there was a new hotel (Hotel Providence) and cancelled another hotel reservation to give it a try. Overall, beautiful hotel, attentive service. Air conditioning did not work well. Restaurant for dinner was only decent with spotty service (after hearing rave reviews, we were disappointed). Hotel provides buffet breakfast for $16 pp. Aweful is our review, to be kind. Luckily my husband had arranged for the "romance package" which not only included breakfast but champagne, chocolates, and dinner the nigth before. Package was well worth it. Breakfast--we went else where after being "grossed out". We would definitely stay there again--friendly staff, beautiful decor--but would opt to dine elsewhere.
