Completely classless. Wifey & I went to The Red Stripe on a Thursday this past August. Our waitor looked and sounded professional enough. He greeted us & took our drink order. Drinks arrived a few minutes later, which was fine, I could see the bartender was busy and doing her best. Now let me put it like this, my wife is.... very well endowed.....she's chest heavy and beautiful and smart as a whip. Anyway she's very self con conscious about it and usually dresses very conservate but this was a special occasion and very warm outside. The display of obvious classless attention she got from our waitor staring directly at her chest when speaking to her, staring and conversation between our waitor and the manager and the cooks all throughout dinner was disgraceful to the point she became so upset and we left before our meals came. It took every ounce of self restraint, and the fact that their were multiple families with young children around us, for me not to completely loose my mind on the waitor and the manager standing there staring and giggling like Junior High School morons.

Besides that horrible experience, I was there with my mother the month before and the service was very poor, though the waitress was sweet, she was completely clueless. Our dinners were cold and lacking in flavor. I had proccuitto wrapped cod and lentils, the lentils tasted a bit off. My mother had a half chicken dish with polenta, it was burnt but cold.

Try one of the other worthy restaurants in the area like Haruki Or La Laiterie.

Avoid like the PLAGUE!. Took my mother and grandmother for late lunch around 3:30pm. and waited about 10 minutes for our waitress to come and get our drink order. Considering that there were only 2 other tables dining in the restaurant at this time I was already disappointed! When we finally did get our drinks she the spilled 1/2 the glass of red wine my grandmother had ordered, on my grandmother. No apology! No Manager ever came by! No offer to pay the dry cleaner! Nothing! after we waited 30-35 minutes for 2 salads and a burger we got our check and the 1/2 glass of wine that my grandmother 1/2 drank and 1/2 wore was still on the bill. You couldn't get me to go back to this place if YOU picked up the check!

Good food, not so good service. The food was very good and the atmosphere is really nice, but the service was lacking quite a bit. My husband and I went there for dinner at around 6:30. They were not packed, but busy. Our server had two or three other tables near to us that were not more than three people. He was slow to bring drinks and was very anxious for us to place our orders. He did not come back to check to see if we needed refills on drinks until after our appetizer had come and gone. Our empty beer bottles sat on the table the entire meal even though they were placed at the edge of the table to indicate they were empty as we were seated at a very small table. Once our food came he checked to see that we recieved the correct items and then did not return to the table until the meal was nearly finished. Both of us needed drinks refilled but they wer not refilled until the meal was nearly over and the server managed somehow to avoid our attempts to flag him down numerous times. It also took an incredibly long time to get our check and the empty beer bottles were still on our table when we left.

Amazing Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup. I do not order anything else on the menu except their Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup. First of all its a great bargain because the portions are HUGE! If you go with a friend, I would recommend one person just ordering a bowl of soup, and the other person get the soup and sandwich combo. Then you can split the sandwich. They make it with very thick bread, tons of cheese, pear, and procuitto.

The place can be a bit loud, but is a fun atmosphere.

OK food; good bar. The food at Red Stripe is only OK. Especially for the price, you might as well go to La Laiterie for some gourmet food rather than pub fare.

The bar is nice though and the service has always been good.

Just OK.. This restaurant is irregular. Some items on the menu are delicious--the superdecadent Croque Madame, the roast chicken, the roasted tomato soup, the French fries with pungent aioli. Others are a bit off--the French onion soup (the cheese is too strong for the soup, not a good combination), the veggie wrap (just OK). Service also varies. One Friday night, the meal took more than an hour! We almost left. On one weekday lunch, our waiter was nice and attentive, but the barwoman kept staring at us. Why would staff want to make their customers uncomfortable?!? On the upside, the decor is pretty (very luminous during the day if you sit by the window), and the location is good. On the downside, everytime I eat there I seem to get, hum, digestive issues afterwards... I don't know if it's just a coincidence... Overall the place is not bad, but given that the food is on the pricey side, it just doesn't seem worth it.

Poor service, inhospitable maitre d'. As a resident of the east side within walking distance to Wayland Square, my wife, friends and I have dined at the Red Stripe more than six times since their opening. On Sunday, Sept. 2nd, I invited my daughter, her husband and new baby and their inlaws for brunch at the Red Stripe. We made a reservation for 1:30 and when we arrived at 1:30, the maitre d' was not prepared for us. She was also rude (snippy) and the exact opposite of what one would expect in a restaurant. We ordered our brunch meal and waited and waited for over thirty to forty minutes. This would not have been too bad, but our food was prepared and waiting to be served on the counter adjacent to the kitchen within our view for at least 20 minutes. Four of the six meals arrived cold and two were sent back. The omelet was over-cooked and "hard", the cheese sandwich and frites were cold and inedible, and the server failed to even acknowledge that this was not the norm. There are far too many good restaurants in Providence to return to this mess. Jaime D'Olivera owns one of them, The Mills Tavern. He should take a close look at the Red Stripe...because if this keeps up, people will avoid this restaurant. The Red Stripe is not a 3, 4, or 5 star restaurant, but this poor service and food is unacceptable even in a local bistro. I would not recommend the Red Stripe to anyone!

Pretty good bistro. I live within walking distance of Red Stripe and have been there countless times. I've had very different experiences each time I've been there. Overall, it's a good place to get well-prepared bistro fare in a lively but loud environment. The service is inconsistent to say the least. I've had wonderful servers who have checked in on us at appropriate time intervals. I'd also experienced a downright rude server who I think has since left (hopefully he was fired...I believe he was the manager). Since he's been gone, I haven't had another bad experience regarding the service. Here's a rundown of the food: The mussels, which are a signature dish are either good or downright bad. I've had a couple of bad lots that we couldn't finish (sandy, smelly, almost fetid). They don't seem to understand that some months mussels just aren't in season. The burger is outstanding. The cod loin can be good, but at times is dry and overcooked. The braised lamb is consistently decent/good. The fisherman's stew is nice. The "everything but the kitchen sink" salad is boring and overdressed. The vegetarian appetizer plate (for 2) is ho-hum. The french onion soup is a bit too sweet for my taste. I've heard wonderful things about the grilled cheese with pear and tomato soup, but haven't tried it. If Red Stripe required a drive to reach, I probably wouldn't go there as often as I do.

Great customer service. A bit overpriced.. I went here for the first time for my birthday. I had read rave reviews about this place in the Providence Journal and decided to try it. The food was very good. I ordered the sweet potato latkes as an app., mussels and fries as an entree, mango cheesecake, and a half bottle of wine. The latkes and cheesecake were about 7 dollars each, but very small and not worth the money. I had expected to get more out of the half bottle of wine but we only got 2 glasses out of it. It would have been a better idea to buy it by the glass. The service was very good though, and we had a lovely waitress. Overall the food was good but a bit overpriced.
