Editorial Review for Silvertone Bar & Grill – by Eric Grossman
The Scene
Vintage family snapshots, liquor posters and radios create a retro vibe at this minuscule yet enormously popular bar and restaurant. Even the prices are retro--a dollar goes a long way with both food and drink. Suits from the Financial District agree, forgoing other local "meet markets" to pack the small bar at lunch and after work. The wait for a table often exceeds an hour, but friendly service and exceptional food and drink prove worth the wait.
The Food
For a solid, stick-to-your-ribs meal, look no further. Upscale comfort food prevails with a few fancy bistro-like touches (a goat cheese crostini appetizer, marinated steak tips) and the catch of the day. Fervent local fans rave (justifiably so) about the meat loaf and mashed potatoes or the super-cheesy mac and cheese. Pair dinner with one of the many half-bottles of wine or champagne on the menu--or try the signature raspberry-infused vodka martini.

Insider Tips
Save MoneyAt a mere $10 above cost, all of Silvertone's wine and champagne bottles are a bargain. The same offerings can sometimes go for three times as much at other area establishments.
Know Before You GoAlthough there is a large private dining room behind the bar, don't show up with a big group without calling ahead. It's only open on Friday evenings, or by reservation for special functions.

I thought the place was So So. Very small (bathroom is the size of a refrigerator), very dark, long wait to be seated and very crowded on a thursday night. Definitly NOT the place to go in party more then 4. Some what difficult to get a drink order when the bar area is jam packed with thirsty happy hour goers and people dining at the bar. The service was nothing to brag or write home about. I ordered the 1/2 chicken with fries and a salad. I am a huge chicken fan and felt that it was slightly over cooked. Waaay to much work for a meesly peice of chicken. The 2 best qualities are the speed in which they deliver there food and the slightly below average prices. Will I go again? Depends what friend will drag me there, but possibly for a beer!!!
Pros: Speed and Prices
Cons: Crowded, loud and not for a large party
