Editorial Review for Arnold Arboretum – by Citysearch Editors

Overview
Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, America's first landscape architect, this 265-acre historic landmark is the oldest arboretum in the country. The park's two-mile-long main road weaves through a plethora of plants, flowers and natural woodlands, ending at the top of Bussey Hill with a sweeping view of Boston.

The Experience
The Arboretum is well worth visiting several times throughout the year, as every season offers unique views. Colorful crab apples, magnolias, lilacs (check out Lilac Sunday in May), azaleas and dogwoods dot the landscape in spring. Summer brings roses and tulip trees, while roughly 130 different kinds of maples contribute to fall foliage and snow-laden conifers and deciduous trees greet visitors in winter. Rhododendron Path is a popular destination, winding along a beautiful shaded ravine and featuring two small waterfalls and a rustic log bridge.

relaxation. The Aboretum is an excellent place to get away from it all in short distance. It is a relaxing place where after a hard day of work a person can walk around and see all the beautiful trees, flowers and birds. From the freshly cut grass and the scent of the flowers and mulch it will revitilize your inner spirit. It is also great for a picnic or a bike ride.

Pros: Beautiful atmosphere, Well-maintained, Serene

Cons: Rainy days
