Sweet_Lou_Dunbar is RIGHT! Maxxie lies!.
Sweet Lou is absolutely right! Cafe Funchal moved to its new location before Sept 27, 2007, when Ed Camara wrote the review of the place for the New Bedford Standard Time, which you can see for yourself by searching the southcoasttoday dot com website.
Obviously "Maxxie" has an axe to grind and didn't realize s/he was screwing up.
Be that as it may, Funchal is a great place -- good food, great atmosphere, fun.
New Location as of Sept 2007 so last comment not accurate. I don't know what that last user was talking about. This restaurant has moved to Church Street and is a wonderful new, happening place, with a great Portuguese menu. She said she had gone last Saturday and the comment was posted on 10/13/07, but there's no way. The way she describes the place was at the old location, so could not have been recent.
Should have walked out-Bad service, unwilling to accomadate!. My husband and I walked in for a late lunch/early dinner last Sat evening (4:30 pm.) Had to enter through the bar and go around to the restaurant. There were 4 other tables occupied and we were seated at the only table for 2 that was left-between the Ladies and Men's room-yuk! I asked if we could be moved to another table, the waitress said she'd have to ask the owner. The owner/manager said they get too busy-and there were no other tables for 2 available-(THE TABLES ARE ON WHEELS!!!! serperate them!) As we got up to leave she said she'd do it this time but never again on a weekend. The paper placemats boasted that this is a "Martini Bar" and lists the vodkas by name. I ordered a Ciroc Martini and my husband ordered a glass of Mediera wine. The waitress informed us that a seared Tuna steak was tThe night's special-my husband ordered it rear and was told no, they only cook it well!! She prompltly served the wine in a small wine glass. After 15 mins I asked if they forgot my drink and was told that the replacement bartender didn't know how to make a Ciroc martini. Ciroc is the name of a Vodka-I changed my order! The meals were small and salty. And over cooked. When we got the bill and saw we were charged $14.00 for each small glass of wine and for a Ciroc Martini that I never got I brought it to the waitress's attention and was told she could not make any adjustments. She went over to the manager who started yelling at her in front of customers. We should have kept walking when they didn't want to change our seats!
rosie. Too bad you can't find a place to park. Very conjested. It's a wonderful place to eat.
