I went to this salon today and I was amazed! The spa is simply beautiful. They catered to me in every way. The girl Corey did highlights on me and I was simply shocked how good it came out. I felt like a whole new person. I will definitely be coming back!
Wonderful Expierence at Shimmer this morning... The staff were friendly and accommodating. They helped keep my kids occupied while I got my hair cut and fit me in last minute seeing that I am a busy mother. Also I want to commend Casey on her wonderful shampoo and scalp massage. She really took her time and prides herself in her job, making the expierence even better!
wish I could give this salon a 0. I had my daughter's birthday party there today. When I scheduled the party, I got a run around with being put on hold, waiting for Grace, the owner, to call back, etc. When she finally called from her cell phone, I asked her the price for the Glamour Kid's Party Package. She told me it was $275 and included hair, nails, and makeup as well as a fruit punch fountain. I asked her if that price included everything and she said, "Yes." She promised to call me when she got into the salon to give me available dates. I ended up having to call her back again because she never called me. At that time, I gave her a $75 deposit. She told me my balance was $200.
When I went to the party today, they started late because they were "waiting for one of the stylists." One of my daughter's friends never got her make up done, and things were not very organized. One of the stylists poked my daughter's friend in the eye with the eyeshadow brush. My daughter's nail polish was peeling off on the way home. There was a teeny tiny drink fountain that held 8 cups of watered down fruit punch.
The best part was when I went to pay, I waited at the front desk for about 10 minutes for someone to take my money. There was a lot of whispering and looking for Grace's husband. When he finally came up, he told me the price was $295 plus a 20% gratuity. I had to tell him about my deposit and that Grace quoted me $275. He left to go talk to Grace and came back saying something about how he thought i had a different party. I told him that Grace never mentioned a gratuity charge to me. She told me it was a birthday party package, which in my mind doesn't have added fees. His response was, "Grace would tell you about the gratuity charge if she was on her death bed." At this point, I was so disgusted and I wanted to get out of there so I paid the extra money.
I called Grace from my car, and she argued with me that she told me about the gratuity charge. She told me that I "must have forgot." She went on to say that she has never had a complaint in her 20 years of business. When I asked why her husband tried to charge me a higher price, she told me that they just implemented a price increase for the kid's parties (her husband told me he thought I had a different party) . She also told me that the gratuity charge is written at the bottom of a supposed "contract" that I was never informed of or sent a copy of. She also said it is listed on their website under the kid's parties, which it is not. Obviously Grace and her husband are dishonest business owners trying to take advantage of the public. From reading Yelp and City Search reviews, she confirms to me that she is a liar. It sounds like this is a regular business practice for Grace. I will never go back to this poor excuse for a day spa. I will also be filing a report with the Better Business Bureau. People work too hard for their money these days and shouldn't be scammed by dishonest business owners. She will not get away with this for long. It is interesting that Grace owned Grace's Hairscapes in Cranston and reopened under a new name.
I went to the salon a with an appointment through the living social coupons...I was to receive...wash cut color keratin treatment and blow dry. I spent over 3 hours there and that got me through the color...it took my hairdresser all that time to get me to the washing station ..where he was having a conversation on the phone with someone about "paperwork being done" and he would call them back after he did a wash...he washed ..about a 20 second wash and put a conditioner on my hair and said i needed to leave it on for 10 minutes..20 minutes went by and i finally had to ask someone if they would rinse me since my hairdresser was outside on the phone rifling through his trunk for something? The man who washed out the conditioner..I was rinsed by a very nice person.
Serg came in and brought me to his stationa and proceeded to cut and blow dry my hair..at which point he told me i was so lucky ..i didn't need a Keratin treatment ...My hair did look and feel wonderful ...but then again doesn't it always after a hairdresser works on it? needless to say..i didn't receive the keratin treatment..and my hair is still as frizzy as it was before. I was given the Hard Sell on a particular line of products and was told that the product he used as a conditioner was why the hair didn't need keratin....of course i bought it. Unless your a professional hairdresser and can do that kind of professional blow dry (which i am not).the conditioner is to me the same as all others at $24 dollars a jar. I did tip because that is how i am...but i really feel cheated in retrospect. My hairdresser was preoccupied with is own personal business the whole time he was doing my hair. I am glad i had a coupon.
Came to the salon the other day, it was big and really nice .This really nice girl did my hair her name was bre.
love the salon and spa – Hi i have been visiting Shimmer since they opened I have njoyed everything from couples massage to eyelash extensions and foil highlighting. the staff is warm friendly talented and proffesional ,Did I mention it is a beautiful spa and well decorated too,
Too bad they're not consistent – i selected this salon for a simple pedicure based on recommendations from the website. What i found was a staff more distracted with themselves and whatever was preoccupying them than a staff focused on customer experieince. Noone smiled or actually greeted me! I was simply asked my last name. Then i waited 40 minutes for appointment, which was fine, but not stellar for the price.
At the end, the nail technician walked me to the front desk and then walked away, which surprised me since we had a nice chat during the treatment. Counter people were again very "busy" with the two people they needed to serve and i walked out without getting a thank you or "nice day". Are they serious? Maybe an off time for them but you're judged on EVERY time you interact with customers.
Won't go back...
Great Atmosphere, Fantastic Services! .... AAA – I had the GREATEST experience.. so professional , creative and very clean. The whole salon was amazing! My new stylist Grace was Fantastic she listened to everything I wanted and gave me the perfect cut! I also had the most amazing facial by Lyan, she even educated me on how to take care of my skin better... Thank you so much Lyan!!! I feel and look 10 years younger! =) I will be going back without a doubt! This salon is Wonderful!!!
The Best Facial Ever!!! – So professional and very friendly staffs.... I had the best facial I've ever had in my life!!! Thanks to Lyan, My skin feels so clean and rejuvenated. I will definitely be coming back for the facials and will try other services as well, I would give them 10 stars if I could....
Don't go.....you'll be sorry – So unprofessional it's amazing! No one at the desk to greet you and when someone finally came (good 10 minutes later) there, they didn't know anything and rude. The girl at the desk, think her name is Leeann, didn't even look up at me, make eye contact! My sister had a birthday party for her daughter there. It was awful! Staff miserable, slow, they didn't even drain the pedicure tubs between each child, again Leeann. I watched her! I may call dept. Of health and better business bureau...don't go, you will be sure to get a disease.
