great food at both!!. i havwe been coming to box seats in smithfield, RI for about 3 years now. The food is fantastic! I do have to say they have gone through the ruff times, but now have everything running smooth now. last time i went in there i receive a member club card and then in about a week i got a 10 dollar off card in the mail. YOU MUST go and try the food
Regards to previous posts. I've been eating at Box Seats for the past 9 years, and yes it has been thru some transitions as have most restaurants. I think that this place is still awesome! Eat here at least once a week. Love the atmosphere, staff AND food. Used to eat here when the so-called "chef" Justin was there, and I think the new kitchen manager Keith has got things going a lot better now. I would tell anyone to go here, decent prices on food and drinks!
not the same any more. We have been to Box Seats in Smithfield several times, but no more. Our last two visits were terrible, and we found out why. Head chef Justin Carpinelli is gone! The food is nowhere near the same. Our last times there, too, the place was practically empty. One of the waitresses told us it's always like that now, since Justin's gone. Good news, though! We found out that he's now at the Medway Cafe in Medway, Mass. We have no idea where that is, as we are fairly new to New England, but believe you me, we will find it!! It will be worth the ride!! Box Seats' loss is Medway's gain!!!!!!!!!!!
On its way down.................... Just heard that Justin Carpinelli is no longer at Box Seats. Sad, sad, sad turn of events for that place. I predict that within two years, this place will be closed. Without this particular Cook (no relation to me), Box Seats is sure to fail. The kid WAS Box Seats. Your loss, Box Seats. Now that Justin C is gone, Effin's across the street is going to bury you!
Oh say it ain't so!!!!. Oh man, we just heard that Justin is no longer at Box Seats--I guess that means WE won't be either!!!!
Boycott this place without Justin!. Box Seats, when Justin was there, was always great. No one can cook like this kid--he's the best. Take it from me, and I weigh 300 pounds and love food--Justin Carpinelli is one of the best cooks around. It's a shame that the owner of Box Seats saw fit to let Justin go just to save money (at least, that's the buzz on the streets--Justin was too highly paid or some such thing!). Well, you may save money dumping Justin, but you are FOR SURE gonna lose it in business, man.
CHEAP EATS??!!!!. Maybe this place USED to have cheap eats, but no more. It also USED to be called Box Seats, but now that the narcissistic owner decided to name it after HIMSELF (Jim's Home Plate), it has declined mightily. We have just heard that Chef Justin is no longer there. This is heartbreaking. We only WENT there BECAUSE of that young man. If the owner was a smart businessman, he would NEVER let Justin out of his sight! Wherever Justin goes next will develop a steady following. I know that we will NEVER go back unless we hear that Justin is working there again!
Don't eat anything unless it's cooked by Justin!. The only thing to be said about Box Seats is to make sure that their cook Justin is in the kitchen!!! Every time we've eaten there and Justin hasn't been the cook, the food has been bland, cold, or we've had to wait much too long to receive it (not the fault of the waitresses, who are all very experienced and fast). Don't even TRY the Seafood Champagne unless it's been cooked by Justin! Also, we've noticed that the prices have gone up considerably--you can get a better value across the street from Box Seats at Effin's!!!
