Very good brunch, great views!. We had brunch here recently on a quiet February weekend. Food was very good - prime rib with horseradish cream sauce was especially tasty. Other standouts: crispy bacon, wonderful fresh pineapple, chicken tangine, good breads, well-made omelets, a superior chocolate mousse. A few things didn't quite appeal as much: dry pork tenderloin (sauce helped though), maple-flavored sausage (just a particular peeve of mine - don't like flavored sausage), apple crisp was rather bland, and the danish and bagels were the standard food service type, nothing tempting. Service was friendly and efficient and the views are just lovely - I imagine they're fantastic at night as well with the bridge in the background. Actually, would give the brunch 4.5 stars, just not the full 5 stars. At $29.95 each, I kind of expect everything to shine - lol. But overall, highly recommended.

VERY ROMANTIC SETTING AT NIGHT, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A RESERVATION FOR BRUNCH. ONE OF A KIND RESTAURANT IN AN 1889 INN. CONTEMPORARY DECOR WITH AMERICAN FARE. EXCELLENT SEAFOOD. GREAT EVENING VIEW OF THE LIGHTS OF NEWPORT AND THE BRIDGE. VERY ROMANTIC. EXCELLENT WINE LIST, MAHOGANY BAR AND TAVERN MENU WITH LIGHTER FARE.. VERY POPULAR SUNDAY BRUNCH. ENJOYED THE MANY COURSES AT DINNER, SPENT A FEW $$$$ BUT WELL WORTH IT...WILL DO IT AGAIN.

Historic inn at the foot of the Newport Bridge serves updated country gentlemen's fare.. The Scene
Located a stone's throw from the water, the dining room connected to this historic inn affords patrons a magnificent view of Narragansett Bay and the Newport Bridge. Even at night, the lights of the bridge are eye-catching. While only the first part of the dining area is original to the inn, the other rooms emulate the older building with bay windows and a beautiful large mahogany bar in the lounge.

The Food
Many of the entrees are updates of what the gentry enjoyed when they ate here. For example, the tournedos of venison is modernized in an envelope of prosciutto filled with porcini and portobello stuffing. The grilled pork porterhouse chop is smothered in a creative combination of tomato chili pepper jam. And the age-old favorite filet mignon is accompanied by the very nouveau smoked tomato fondue and duck comfit. A chocolate-capped tiramisu finishes any of the meals off in rich style.
