Tips for Fort Adams State Park

August 14, 2003

Salute, surf and sail away at this picturesque state park.. Fort-ified Fun
This hilly point juts into Newport harbor, providing an excellent vantage point for yacht-watching. It's also a favored site for music festivals, including summer's annual folk and jazz festivals. There's swimming, fishing and picnicking as well.

The fort, named for President John Adams, is one of the largest seacoast fortifications in the country. Tours are offered during the summer.

Come Sail Away
When it's not hosting its famous music festivals, Fort Adams State Park still draws the crowds, who come to take advantage of "Sail Newport," a nonprofit community sailing facility offering public sailboat and windsurfing instruction and rentals.

The park is also home to the Museum of Yachting, which features boating artifacts from the early 1900s.
