Editorial Review for The Mooring – by Eric Grossman

In Short
Whether seated in the inviting Harborview Room or breezy rear patio, diners enjoy fresh local seafood and selections from an award-winning wine list. The chummy bar area's a great spot for solo diners--there's a flat-screen TV--looking to sample from the gourmet raw bar. Among starters, a "bag of doughnuts" (lobster, crab and shrimp fritters with chipotle-maple aioli) demonstrates the kitchen's creative edge. Entrees run the gamut from Guinness-cured steak sandwiches to cornmeal-basil crusted cod loin.

I can not believe anyone wouldn't think the Mooring is a great place. It has a great waterfront dining room, indoors and out. The food is always amazing, we eat here several times a month, being locals. We always bring out of town guests here, you can't beat the view. The service is usually great and the as I said we are never dissapointed with the food. The halibut with pistatios and scallop chowder are terrific, as are the lobster spring rolls and bag of donuts. The wine list is extesive with a lot of 1/2 bottle selections also. Parking would be nice but it is Newport and most places don't offer parking. Find a meter, they go off at 9 and the night is free after that.

Pros: great view and food is always good

Cons: no parking, need a reservation
