The Scene
When the stars are in town--Ted Turner for a sail, Steven Spielberg to film a movie--this is where you're likely to find them.
The Food
Even if the place is celebrity-less, there are other stars: rich, oceany clam chowder with a reputation as the best in town, or baked oysters musky with truffles. At one end of the long, narrow building, tuxedoed waiters serve filet mignon au poivre and baby pheasant in a black-truffle and Madeira sauce in the hushed dining room. Here, the service is impeccable and the wine list is seriously overpriced. At the other end, join a crew of sockless back-slappers in the pub to hoist a few and indulge in superior lobster bisque and a burger.

This was my first meal in Newport- and even though its right on the water and is supposed to have delicious seafood, I for some reason ordered a burger- and it was DELICIOUS! The service was also great.
Pros: yumyumyum
Cons: none

The Black Pearl is a remnant from days gone by when one didn't have a choice of great seafood resturants and were stuck with arrogant and unfriendly staff members and old antiquated ambiance. It took what seemed forever to even be acknowledged at the seating desk. Food was plain, nothing inventive nor mouth watering. Four of us were on vacation on the East Coast and have captured many places we plan on returning to, but this place is definitely not on our list. Save your money; better places all around you.
Pros: Walking distance from hotel
Cons: Everything; food is plain, service is arrogant, ambiance is old and dated.
