DELICIOUS CHEESEBURGER AND FRIES!!. This was my first meal in Newport- and even though its right on the water and is supposed to have delicious seafood, I for some reason ordered a burger- and it was DELICIOUS! The service was also great.
Overrated. The Black Pearl is a remnant from days gone by when one didn't have a choice of great seafood resturants and were stuck with arrogant and unfriendly staff members and old antiquated ambiance. It took what seemed forever to even be acknowledged at the seating desk. Food was plain, nothing inventive nor mouth watering. Four of us were on vacation on the East Coast and have captured many places we plan on returning to, but this place is definitely not on our list. Save your money; better places all around you.
great chowder.
love the chowder! A newport tradition!
Terrific food - go in the off season for the best experience!
Best seafood. This place has the best seafood and clam chowder anywhere in New England. Make wait list reservations because the wait time is at least one hour. But the wait is worth every minute because you will never have seafood better than this.
Best Chowder In Rhode Island.
Any visit to Newport must include a visit to The Black Pearl. Diners can choose from the tavern, the main dining room or the fun outside cafe. Any meal is not complete without an order of chowder. Rich with clams and potatoes, a creamy broth topped with dill and lemon, this is the quintessential New England styled chowder. The Pearl also features stellar burgers, fish and chips and grilled fish.
For a sepcial treat, end your meal with the key lime pie.
Overpriced, Low Quality Food Made With No Pride.
The Pearl raves about it's chef and his win in a major culinary competition by the front door menu board, well whover judged that competition never ate there! The food was boring, plain and made with zero pride. Whover that chef is (i refuse to even learn his name) should be embarrassed!
I went July 3rd with 5 friends prepared for a long wait and we were happy to wait 1.5 hours at the outdoor and indoor bars for a table. Unfortunately, we were jammed into a corner table even though two large round tables were open throughout our meal. We requested the larger table, but were told the waitresses "find it hard to work around them." What???
The food was even more disappointing. The waitress highly recommended the striped bass which was dry and without any tomato, basil buerre blanc that it was advertised with. (in retrospect we think she was trying to unload the bass on us.) Every dish came with tasteless rice and overcooked tasteless beans. I've had better seafood at that chain lobster place.
Ted Turner and any other C list celebrity is not worth putting yourself through a meal at the Black Pearl.
The Black Pearl. "The Pearl" is a great place to eat! The food is great, the patio is a nice place have a few drinks and enjoy the wonderful outdoors in the summer a. The tavern and patio are casual attire and DO NOT take reservations, there can be quite long waits in the summer so stop by about an hour or so before you want to dine. and the waitress' are some of the most beautiful in town
Great Service. I have loved the Black Pearl for years....and must say that the service is always top notch.
Good times on the patio. I've never gone to the indoor dining area, but have always enjoyed grabbing a casual meal at Black Pearl's outdoor patio, which sits on the dock right outside of the restaurant. The burgers are delicious, and they make the best mudslide I've ever had. It's expensive, but you're paying for the atmosphere and the location. Service is generally solid. Worth going to at least once.
