Not what it used to be. We've been to the Modern Diner a handful of times, and always endure the long wait and mediocre service because the food was worth it. Today however, the food was terrible, and the service was even worse. There's a red-headed waitress who is as rude and nasty as they come. She was rude to almost everyone who was there. A busboy was walking around the restaurant aimlessly with a tooth-pick hanging out of his mouth- how disgusting! The potatos were both burnt and raw- I'm not sure how that's possible, but it was. We will never go back there.…
Best breakfast anywhere!!!!. Best breakfast anywhere!!!! Will be a wait but worth it in the end. Try the custard french toast!!!
Great food in cool space. The food is delicious, creative, and there is so much choice. The usual breakfast suspects are there, but so are unusual and original combinations. The best grits I've ever had--creamy, rich, perfectly cooked and with a nice fresh corn taste. I had mine with lobster--although the lobster bits tasted good, in the end I found them unnecessary. The cheesy grits with a poached egg were enough on their own. The space is very, very cool, and the clientele is eclectic and lively, all of which makes for an exciting way to start the day. Service is quick, and there is parking, which is great in Providence! What was not so great: very crowded, there always seems to be a line; and the space, which is a bit on the cramped side, had a weird smell (not appetizing). Also, it would be nice to have better hot tea--the food is so thoughtful and well prepared, it just doesn't go with that tannic "Brisk" stuff.…
good food, moderate prices. nice specials, very busy, a little pricey but creative culinary specials are the big love the eggs benedict
nice retro decor, I love the old diners. good specials although had long wait for breakfast, not many places to sit while waiting for table, a little over priced and cramped dining surroundings
