great service. mediocre food. lame atmosphere.. this restaurant is highly recommended here and in other places, but i was frankly horrified by most everything about it. designed straight out of an 80s gangster film with disco gilded columns and dark underground walls complete with fake plants and tacky floral arrangements, i couldn't believe this was the best restaurant providence had to offer! the food was mediocre at best...the steak i ordered arrived cold, partnered with overcooked spinach and undercooked roast potatoes. the wine list was extensive but very italian heavy (not that i should be surprised in providence). the waitstaff was very accomodating and charming, but it wasn't enough to make up for the rest. Try any number of other Providence restaurants (including cappricio's sister, Cafe Nuovo) for a much better experience.
Cappricio's Not All That!. Table was not ready at reserved time. Bar area nice but Very poor wine by the glass selection. Nice wine list BUT 2000 Ingignia priced at $140ea it was conveniently sold out (lost leaders on wine list). There was no attempt to compensate for this! Food was priced high but pretty average (veal chop with risotto which was cold). Service was poor and waiter rushed order, seemed to have too many tables. Pasta was cold and over cooked and red pasta sauce below Providence "Italian" standards. Overall product was very over priced. Could be a good restaurant if details were attended too. Not a very good first impression to this diner.
BEST ITALIAN IN PROVIDENCE. We have been frequenting Capriccio for almost two years now. We used to dine all over Providence, but after we came here, we just cannot go anywhere else. There is nothing that even comes close to measuring up. The food, service, ambience are all impeccable. We had our rehearsal dinner here and everyone raved about this restaurant. I wouldn't take a loud obnoxious kid here but they will cater to kids because they will almost make you anything they want, even if it's just plain old spaghetti and sauce. HIGHLY recommended and worth the price!
An upscale setting, in the cellar of the historic Owen Building, merits a toast and has the wine list to prove it..
In Short
The luxurious, romantically lit dining room features worn cobblestone floors and exposed stone and brick walls that date back to 1877. But this celebrated downtown establishment is known for its extensive wine list as well as its landmark status. (Where else would you find a bottle of 1947 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild?) Chef Nino D'Urso prepares wonderful, solid meals--from pasta to seafood to steaks and even "designer" Kobe beef.
east coast style, out of sopranos. it's got great atmosphere, great service, great food, tons of great wines, absolutely a treat. way way too pricy. but if you've got cash to throw around, a fab place to go.
Superb!. Fabulous food, incredible ambiance, excellent service, and very romantic! Every visit is a delight to the senses - we recommend it to all or our out-of-town friends.
Capriccio's. Every experience I have ever had at Capriccio's has been incredible. The food, atmosphere and service create a fabulous ambience. Enjoy a before or after dinner drink in the comfortable bar and indulge in some of my favorites including Tenderloin Diane and Crepes Suzette. I have experienced quite a few romantic evenings at Capriccio's and recommend it to many!
Worth the trip to Rhode Island. I always love returning to Rhode Island, especially if my trip includes a trip to Capriccio. It was my girlfriend's first time both to RI and Capriccio, and our dining experience was something she could not stop talking about. Not only is the food top notch, the wine list is very extensive. The staff though, makes you feel right at home.
birthday girl. Having eaten there a few times look forward to going back. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxing and the food is terrific. Going for coffee and after dinner drinks in the lounge rounds out the evening.
SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!!. This restaurant has dramatically changed for the worse in the last 5 years.Has ownership changed??? We received cold food.Waiter takes it and comes back 25 minutes later with more cold food!!!!Way over priced to the point of outrageousness.
