Out Dated and Over- rated. I went to Z- Bar with my boyfriend and a few others expecting a fun night with good food. First of all, we walked and immediatley my ears began to ring from the combo of terrible music and an obnoxious crowd of coked-up looking patrons- AND STAFF. The bartenders were unattentive and seemed annoyed just to be there. Then they poured us weak, overpriced drinks. And this was just the first ten minutes. So we figured at least the food would be tasty; we had heard they had just hired a new chef. Lets just say maybe they should have kept the old one. It might have helped if the food had at least been hot when they delivered it, but apparently even that was to much to ask for. Overall just a bad experience. Now I am not usually the type to take the time just to write something like this. However, I was so offended by this place I felt compelled to. So basically I would say stay as far away as possible unless you enjoy seedy-looking and rude staff and cold, tasteless food.

One more reason I love Providence. We were greeted warmly by the manager who lead us to the patio in the back. Our waitress was attentive and very friendy. The first delight was the warm beet salad with pecans and blue cheese, which we shared. My wife had the lobster ravioli in a crab red sauce. The sauce was as good as the pasta and could have been a meal in it's self. However the reasson for this rating wasmy dish. I had the wood grilled striped bass, with truffled potatoes and eggplant. This was the most incredible assembly of flavors Ihave had in about five years. The fish was perfect and was accentuated nicely by the truffled mash. Capers and a lemon butter sauce finished the dish so well I hace to stop half way through and get a glass of wine to acompany what I had left. The bartender paired a pinot gris that was outstanding. This is a restaurant that we will be telling our friends about for a long time.

Fantastic Seafood. On the plane going to Providence, we sat next to a chef from Massachusetts. He said Z Bar and Grill is his favorite whenever he visits Providence. We went, and he was right. The baked oysters with pernod was succulent and delicious. The boulliabaisse had a wonderful tomato based broth with huge scallops that melt in your mouth, supplemented with crab and tillapia. It was truly among the best I've ever had! You won't regret going to Z Bar and Grill!!

AWFUL EXPERIENCE....crazy croud...NOT RECOMMENDED. After reading the reviews for Z Bar & Grille I was excited to go. I went a few weeks ago with my husband. The service was great along with the food. Everything was fine until a customer came in clearly intoxicated. She sat at the bar with an actual cone from a construction site! She proceeded to yell through the cone using it as a megaphone. Even saying she demanded to see a magager. Not only did a manager NOT come out and ask her to leave as I would have expected, the Z bar employees did nothing to stop her. I was blown away by this. This went on for quite a few minutes, enough to notice that many customers included us were obviously uncomfortable.

As the evening began I was impressed with our waitor and the food. But after this experience I would be embarrassed to bring a guest there for fear that something like this would happen again. It turned out to be an awful experience, one that could have been easily resolved by management.

I would not recommend this restaurant

Great atmosphere. I really haven't had a bad experience at the Z-Bar. From drinks on the patio to a full meal to a light snack, it's all been good. They mix a mean drink and their daily specials are always good.

Good bar scene. This is one of the few places who have found the delicate balance between bar and restaurant. This is basically a small space with the bar not seperated from the dining room, but one does not interfere with the other. Good food and service with a patio for dining in the summer. It is more crowded when the colleges are in town and the patio is closed for the winter. Good mix of people. The only complaint I have is this is one restaurant who probably would benifit from valet parking. Sandwiched amongest many other restaurants on a very busy street it is almost impossible to get a parking space. I have found myself driving around the block many times looking for a space only to finally give up, I can't believe I am the only person this happens to on a regular basis. There is a lot shared with the other restaurants but is equally hard to get a space.

A fashionable watering hole for the chronically hip.. The Scene
Located among the cutting-edge galleries and trendy coffee shops on Wickenden Street, Z-Bar exudes just the teeniest bit of snobbery. The huge front window and swiveling heads give it away: Z-Bar is a place to see and be seen, all to the tune of soulful R&B CDs. During warm weather, the people watching moves to the patio. But don't even think of occupying a table for just a drink; they're for dinner only. Fortunately, no one will notice your reddened face under the soft glow from the lights above the bar.

The Booze
The regular crowd (late 20s, early 30s) arrives sporting the latest looks. Beer and drinks are equally chic and taste as good as they look.

Z Best. One of my favorites. It's hard to believe that a bar could have food that is this good!

Intimate & Fun Dining. The Z Bar ia a great place to unwind after a long day or week. Does not matter if your meeting friends to chat it up over drinks of taking that special someone to have a romantic dinner. This place is awesome, the feel is that of a neighborhood eatery, with flair!

The staff is great always warm and welcoming. The Creative plates are super.

Very comfortable & Inviting, the crowd is a fun lively group, and will always find good conversation at the bar.

Go and enjoy, this will quickly become one of many Providence favorites.
