The Scene
If everyone took a favorite piece from their grandmother's living room and brought it to a centralized location, you'd have a good chance of recreating L'Elizabeth's interior. The comfy sofas, ceramic lamps and antique coffee tables blend to create a romantic atmosphere that dates back to an era older than its 1973 founding. With the average age of patrons hovering around 50, it's obvious that those who discovered this spot in their heyday keep coming back for more.
The Draw
Drinks here are as traditional as the decor: bourbon, scotch, sherry, port and cognac. If you're feeling racy, ask for a Chocolate Kiss, a specialty drink made from Godiva chocolate liqueur and topped with whipped cream. An international selection of coffees pays homage to Belgium, France, Ireland, Holland, Jamaica and Mexico. Ceylon, England and China are honored through teas.

Insider Tips
Personalized ServiceWish you had a servant to bring you brandy after a long day? Sit in the non-smoking section. Often empty during off-peak hours, the personal attention in this intimate room is worth the nicotine withdrawal.
Expensive TasteDon't offer to pick up the tab unless you're feeling flush. With wine by the glass in the $7 range and martinis around $9.50, you could max your credit card.

My friends and I visited this past Saturday during a Waterfire night. What a mistake. We were seated in a side room with some privacy and presented menus with no prices listed. We should have asked about the prices, but since we did expect to pay a bit of a premium for their desserts, we didn't bother. Among the 8 of us, we ordered 4 teas, 3 coffee drinks, 1 soda, and 4 desserts. The chocolate pound cake was average, the torte was good, and the cheesecake was very good. The drinks were fine, except that they were out of milk for tea and we needed to ask them to bring sugar. The total for this average experience was $170. $14 for coffee drinks, $12 for desserts, and they added 20% tip automatically. Unreal. When we asked one of the hosts about the $6 soda, he left to check but didn't even have the nerve to return. All in all, a horribly disappointing experience and one that we will never repeat. I cannot recommend enough that you avoid this place.
Pros: we had a side room so we could moan about the bill in private
Cons: credit card machine was "down"

Perfect atmosphere for a romantic drink, or just a place to impress an old friend with. The drinks are expensive, but they are generous and worth their price. Fantastic! Intimate space with great service, quick and to the point. Very accomodating, they were willing to make any special drink I wanted, which is unusual. I had a lovely and original espresso martini that the bartender made up for me. I highly recommend this bar.
