Tips for The Providence Biltmore

you could end up in a smoking room. This hotel only honors reservations made directly through them - I paid in full, IN ADVANCE for a non-smoking room through hotelsdotcom only to be told, upon check in, that because I booked through a "third party" they were only obligated to provide a non-smoking room if one was available. Had to stay in a disgusting, smelly room on a disgusting, smelly floor. No recourse - they had my money and a contractual technicality. BE CAREFUL - your comfort, and preferences, are not guaranteed here.

Great Historic Hotel. Stayed in November/2006. Great service, the restaurant downstairs had above average food. Nice scene. Busy during weekends with weddings. Beds were very comfortable. Starbucks downstairs, computer room, spa, workout room. I would definitly return and recommend. Parking can be tricky, valet is the only way to go.

Beautiful and nicely restored hotel. I hadn't been back to Providence for 4 years and has the Biltmore drastically changed for the better. Flat screen TV's, Starbuck's, McCormick & Schmick's as well as a very nice gym on the 2nd level. The rooms are huge. What a treat.

Nicely done restoration of an old classic!

A living history museum in the heart of downtown.. The Scene
This grand hotel is rich in cultural history. Designed by the architects responsible for Grand Central Station, it was glamorous from the day it opened in 1922. Over the years it has seen its dance floor transformed into an aquarium for Esther Williams and frozen over for Sonia Henie's ice show. Today, it continues to wow guests, most recently with a $10-million-dollar upgrade.

The Details
At the turn of the millennium, 44 key access Club Floor Rooms, including a Presidential Suite, were added to the third and fourth floors. These accommodations feature original artwork, French doors and their own doorbells. Over half of the standard rooms measure in at an average of 600 square-feet. Décor is traditional, in a style often associated with classic upscale hotels--pale striped wallpaper, lots of potted palms, dark wood furnishings and richly colored fabrics. To get a feel for the hotel's past, check out the beautiful Grand Ballroom. The onsite Starbucks is commendable, as well, with its deco fireplace and pressed metal ceiling.
