Simple style provides a tasteful escape in this historic home..
The Scene
This is one of those B&Bs where style triumphs over frills and fuss. The Italianate-style home was built in 1863 and originally served as a rectory. Today it offers ten well-appointed rooms next door to the historic Rhode Island Courthouse. Its location on Benefit Street puts it among some of the finest Colonial and Victorian homes in the region.
The Details
The simply decorated rooms have been given whimsical names such as Miss Marple and Nightingale. Marble fireplaces, brass beds and chandeliers are among the customized touches. Wood plank floors, 12-foot ceilings and 19th-century add character, while at the same time they are furnished with standard modern hotel amenities such as TVs, phones and private baths. Decor is thoughtfully chosen--a strategically placed mirror here, a classic side table there. Some of the rooms overlook the Capitol. Breakfast is served in the pretty dining room.
