Editorial Review for Gregg's Restaurant – by Michele McCole Moss and Dawn Keable
The Scene
Gregg's is a favorite with seniors and young families for its good food and good prices. The dinner crowds start early, staking claim to the dark booths and tables. Check out the big dessert case in the front for after-dinner yummies.
The Food
Much of the menu comes straight from June Cleaver's kitchen: chicken pot pie, spaghetti and meatballs, and meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. There's even liver and onions. The desserts are to die for, especially the cheesecakes and carrot cake. Chocoholics love the Death by Chocolate cake. Want to end the meal in the wholesome "Leave It to Beaver" way you began it? Have some apple pie.

Instead of going to another restaurant my brother suggested Gregg's, one of four like it in the state. He and my mother had been there before and liked it. Normal standard fare they said. On the internet, the reviews were mixed but more people liked it then not so we went. There were their famous sliced cucumbers were okay and the rolls were fine nothing to write home about. The area is spacious and it was not noisy at all. Appetizers chicken quesadilla was very good with guacamole, bits of tomatoes and sour cream side for sides. Crisp, enough chicken and the taste was quite good. Their orange sweet potato crinkle fries were excellent and fried just right. Chipotle like dipping sauce with it was excellent. The buffalo sauce was too vinegary. My main dish (and nephew's) was the Philly cheese-steak (a la RI) sandwich on a kaiser. It was very good with tasty grilled beef strips with some onions and little bits of cheese (some would more but I liked it with this little bit of cheese) . My mother's broiled (non breaded) scrod was excellent broiled just right. My sister-in-law liked her Chinese chicken salad. My brother liked his burger. The restaurant makes their own desserts. The chocolate cake with pudding like filling in it was chocolate and excellent. The waitress was very good, helpful in deciding on certain entrees etc and served us well and was gracious in all ways. She helped us (me mostly) decide on which items might be good to try. Reasonably priced, good tasting food, many items to choose from (the new menu), I would rate it as a good place to go for lunch or dinner .

My husband and I wanted to have a relaxing evening but that did not quite happen. We did not have to wait but that's about it. The service was VERY slow and the food was completely tasteless: we had ordered two different kind of chicken but the only difference we could find in the plates was the sauce in a small cup! Dessert was not much better. Why pay more than $30 for that when ordering a pizza would be better! If you likw good food, find another place!
