Thayer St cafe with great food and parking!!.
I must have passed by it a million times before I realized the front door was in the back by the parking lot (yeah theres a parking lot which is a bonus on Thayer Street). I had the Shish Kabob dinner - the chicken was so tender you could cut it away from the skewer with a butter knife. Like the sandwiches, this dish is enough for two. After that I wolfed down a huge slice of warm apple pie and vanilla ice cream that were as good as grandmas.
Don't forget to stop in the liquor store on the way in - the cafe is BYOB. Also, check the board for specials. The night I went, everyone was ordering the meat lasagna special and loving it. I cant wait to go back and try it.
gourmet quality and heafty portions.. i go to meeting street for one of two reasons: to study, for which i get one of the huge cups of free-refills coffee; or, to eat, and always get the curried chicken salad sandwich. it is to die for. really, it is heaven. and so huge; i get the half size because that alone is equal to the "whole" at any other deli. the prices are a little more, but the quality is worth it. you can see them making your meals, and the atmosphere is comfortable and nice, with big windows from the second story. plus there is the pastry case that can always tempt.
This is the place for gargantuan gourmet sandwiches on an itty-bitty budget..
The Scene
Local college students have known for years that one Meeting Street Cafe sandwich can easily fill two co-eds. It's safe to say that the gourmet sandwiches here are big. Bigger is not necessarily better, but in this case the hefty size is filled with fresh ingredients. These sandwiches are for discriminating tastes; no two-day old wieners here.
The Food
The menu is nearly as large as a textbook. Favorites include the "East Sider," a pocket filled with steamed carrots, broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, a double portion of melted cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. Isn't good food worth the price of college tuition?
Dish to Die For
Any day is a holiday when you're eating a "Thanksgiving," with hot turkey, homemade stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion.
Pastrami. Awsome Pastrami Sandwiches...holy smokes they're huge....Don't miss it, its on the second floor...
Bigger and Better!. IF a bit cheaper, Meeting Street would get higher ratings from me -- though the servings are large, and one sandwich can easily fill two people. One of the best things on the menu is the oversized chocolate chip cookies -- a must try. I also especially like the vegetarian sandwiches, esp. the East Sider, and the Turkey Steak, and the curry chicken salad.
absolutely yummy. This is a favorite of our son who lives in Bristol and works in Providence. We had the pleasure of visiting the Meeting Street Cafe this September. The salads and soups were fantastic! It was a very enjoyable meal and the staff was pleasant and attentive.
