To Kaylamarie222. Kayla,

I worked for Rumford for 6 years. Until I was let go for issues out of my control. If the management in the warwick store could focus more on their jobs and not the clicks they form or who's dating who in the office and not play favorites cause their dating each other, then Rumford could actually start to live up to the Great reputation they use to have!! So trust me I have no reason to defend any of their actions. You do have a right to your feelings. However if your going to bash them get your facts correct. I was the Senior Animal Care Specialist there for the last 3yrs I worked there. 1st how do you know you were blatantly lied too? All the breeders are in fact U.S.D.A licensed and regulated. So the breeders do get regular inspections. Also most of the breeders they have been working with for close to 10 years. So they are friendly and work close with their breeders. 2nd the # of rooms you mentioned in the back is wrong. 3rd they have never gotten a shipment of puppies even close to 200 @ one time and they certainly dont put 6 puppies in one cage. Yes sometimes they will put 2-3 littermates together if they are small and will do better with a companion.

As for you and the newfoundland, yes bathing him/her is correct, but shaving is not. If you are not a trained groomer..then you should NOT be shaving a puppy.

Unfortunately you are correct about most of the cleaning and the training of the staff, but that is not the their fault. They are all over worked and understaffed. (that is the staff who works taking care of the puppies) not the staff on the floor or in the offices. That situtaion is the managements fault. The puppy care staff needs more people to help care for the puppies. I can say from personal experience EVERYONE through out Rumford Pet Center does genuinely love and care for these puppies and do the best they can with what resouces they have. They do their best to keep the puppies as healthy as they can, but its like kids in daycare once a virus or infection goes airborne it can be like a domino affect. Thats why they have their own vet and also why they deworm them and take fecal samples before they can be cleared for sale.

Liars.... I love animals and have all my life. I thought that Rumford was a reputable natural pet store. On my interview, I directly asked where these puppies come from. I was blatantly lied to as they said they work with a few breeders who breed dogs for them and they have seen the locations and are friendly with the breeders. I admit I was naive and wanted to believe this was true. I started out on the sales floor and sucked at it because I couldn't try to get people to buy the most expensive bed, collars, and accessories after they spent upwards of 2000 on a puppy. I moved positions to animal care in the back. On paper and in front of the store, Rumford can seem acceptable. Once you start seeing the actual care of the puppies, It's a whole different game. There are 4 back rooms with the puppies that aren't ready to be put out yet. They need to have their dewormers for a few days before being able to be purchased. On a regular "shipment" there are between 70-200 puppies delivered. They are placed in metal crates that are stacked 3 or four high that can be rolled around to rearrange. Depending on the dogs, there can be from 1-6 puppies per crate. The puppies need to be "pilled" to get their wormers. This requires the employee to use a step ladder and wrestle with the puppies to get the pill down their throat. These employees are not trained properly and many times the dogs do not get the right amount of pills. Some dogs are given more than needed, while others are given not enough. The cleaning of these crates is also disgusting. In the back there are trays under each crate. They are supposed to start with an empty clean crate and move puppies to that crate and clean the crate where they came from. Most employees will take out all the trays and clean them first while the dogs defecate and urinate on each other. There are so many cages to clean that it's impossible to properly clean them all. The sick room (which employees are supposed to wear gowns and gloves before entering) is the dirtiest of them all. there are few stacking crates in here, but many cat carriers and kennel cabs. the bottoms of these kennel cabs have shredded paper on them.

HORRIBLE!. This store is horrible! Not because of the staff in this particular location, but because they sell puppies in the location at Warwick and any store supporting that cruelty should be shut down. The staff in Warwick is unfriendly. First they ignore you because they are so busy, not even saying something like "I'll be right there with you", then they throw pencils, cough protesting after you turn around, look disgusted at you and show you the way out, just because you asked one question 2 minutes after 8 o clock. The most unpleasant store experience ever. The puppies sit the whole day in the cage in their own pee and poop, they have irritated eyes from the stank and poop on their legs, they probably are sick because of the lack of hygiene, the staff doesn't even try to cover that they don't care about the poop on the dogs wiping it off before they hand you the poor pet. The local store manager in Warwick doesn't care if one of the staff girl has a bad attitude against you, they just have a big grin in their faces, laugh at you and open the door wide for you to leave. And before you leave the store they make sure to let you know how intelligent they are because they are studying to become a nurse. DON'T SUPPORT THAT, please don't buy there.

Why aren't people filing complaints or picketing to stop it. I haven't personally bought a pet from Rumford, but mainly because I NEVER buy from pet stores. When I was 8, I got a cocker spaniel from a pet store and she was a puppy mill dog and sadly died. It was so heartbreaking at such a yound age that I only go to reputable breeders & shelters for adopt. First mistake was buying from a pet store.

Why isn't anyone doing anything? If they are actually using puppy mills & breaking the law, why would u waste your time "spreading the word" and report them to shut them down. Have them invesigated!!!

THIS STORE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. MY 9 MONTH GOLDEN RETRIEVER HAS BEEN SICK SINCE WE PURCHASED HER. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY NUMEROUS VETS AND CONSUMERS THAT RUMFORD BUYS SICK, INBRED PUPPIES FROM MID WESTERN PUPPY MILLS. IT IS HEART-BREAKING TO WATCH A MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY SLOWLY SUFFER. THIS BUSINESS KNOWINGLY PURCHASES SICK DOGS-AGAINST RI LAW!!! THIS STORE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. I WOULD LOVE TO HELP.

Aquarium. I cannot comment on the dogs, birds, rabbits or anything besides that you shouldn't be dumb enough to buy from petshops...idiots!

What I do know is that the staff in the aquarium is top notch. If they think you buying 2 fish is bad they will educate you on why and what is a good alternative. Its clean, well maintained, and they've got a good selection (compared to the normal petshop fish). They always are waiting to help and give tips and remember who you are and what fish you have. Customer for life!

Don't be dumb enough to buy a dog from a petshop though.

These people sell puppymill pups!. The dog my family purchased here had to be put down within the first few months of her life. Her defects ended up being so severe that she could not be humanely kept living.

Since then, I have heard from others that this has happened to them. There is nothing more heartbreaking than watching your puppy die before your (and your childrens') eyes.

Don't support a place that purposefully breeds puppies that can't survive.

BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT BUY PUPPIES HERE!. I hope this bulletin will serve as a basis to inform consumers about the unethical and immoral business conducted by Rumford Pet Center in East Providence, Rhode Island.

I purchased a Miniature Schnauzer from Rumford Pet Center. One week to the day I brought her home she fell very ill and was diagnosed with Pneumonia. Based on Sasha's condition, the veterinarian informed us that she was infected with Pneumonia far before we purchased her from Rumford Pet Center. She has been in an animal hospital since Sunday and has made very little progress. She will be put to sleep today.

Rumford Pet Center treated my situation as though I had purchased a pair of damaged shoes and the simplest solution would be to bring them back for a new pair, stating I could "return the sick dog for another one". All I asked was that they take responsibility for the cost of her treatment. The General Manager I initially spoke with refused to contribute anything to Sasha's highly expensive hospital bill.

Rhode Island Law prohibits the sale of sick puppies and has Lemon Laws to protect consumers. After comparison, I've found that the 20 day warranty Rumford Pet Center provides to their customers matches the Rhode Island law exactly. Rumford Pet Center does not go one step above what the law requires of them. They lack compassion and consideration on behalf of the animals and their customers.

After sharing my experience at Rumford Pet Center with others I have learned that many people have purchased sick, inbred and/or aggressive animals at this establishment. It is also said that Rumford Pet Center works in conjunction with Puppy Mills.

I hope that everyone in my area will spread the word about the business dealings and policies of Rumford Pet Center.

WE'VE HAVE HEARD THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER PUPPIES IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS THAT HAVE BEEN ADMITTED TO THE SAME ANIMAL HOSPITAL ALSO ILL.
