Love, love, love it!

by monkey2 at Citysearch

Yikes, I just read the "overpriced" review and can't believe we were at the same salon! I found the people at Salon Marc Harris to be friendlier than many other salons I've been to. I've been trying to find a stylist I really like since mine left the area and have bounced around to different places. But I found my guy! I went to Jonathan Williams and he is fantastic. I'm a low-maintenance hair girl and he gave me a cut that I love and is easy to take care of. I have received a ton of compliments from family, friends and co-workers and I tell them all about Jonathan at Salon Marc Harris.

What Happened

by missy161 at Citysearch

I recently called "Marc Harris Salon" in Providence and to my surprise they were closed down. So I say, "What happened to all the employees". It is pretty SAD that they only gave out the information for a few of employees. I am a client of Jonathan and Melanie. He cuts my hair and Melanie colors it. I am disappointed that there information was not on the answering machine as the others. How UNPROFESSIONAL is that! Luckily I found where they are. WIL.O DESIGN STUDIO at 935 PARK AVE. CRANSTON RI. 401.865.6011. I also see that 2 other girls are there as well, The receptionist Ashley, and the other stylist Allison. I hope this can help anyone else who are looking for them.

Classy to Trashy

by sassy321 at Citysearch

I visited Salon Marc Harris Providence recently for the first time. Ive visited the salon on Newbury and was not thrilled about the cut I recieved in Boston, the salon was clean and classy so...being in Providence I expected the same. As soon as I walked in i was quite taken by how dingy the salon looked, it was covered wall to wall with streaky mirrors, one of the stations mirrors was cracked corner to corner!, and a huge one high on the wall was patched with tape(quite dangerous!) A half hour later Jonathan came over to talk to me, stunk like smoke and was flirty and creepy. The coverups robe was short sleaved and he did the whole haircut without putting any kind of drape over me. I was covered in hair! I even found it in my purse!. He payed more attention to chatting with people walking in and the cute girls around than he did to my haircut .. for almost $100 haircut, thats insulting. An hour later my hair looked the same! I thought this was a reputable company but its a far cry from its Bostonian reputation :(

Bad Hair Day.

by Asha1 at Citysearch

So, I am not from the east coast and I was recommended this salon by a co-worker. I do not mind paying for quality service. I did not get quality. I had a color with highlights and a cut with long layers. Most of the time the stylist did not talk to me, she talked to her co-workers, not that I need continued interaction but, it's just polite to respond when someone is talking to you. When I arrived to the salon I waited 10-15 minutes while she came in late to work because she stopped for coffee. I asked for "subtle" highlights and I got "excessive" highlights. I had hair coloring on my forehead which she did not attempt to remove. I asked her to dry my hair straight and she dried it with big curls. When she cut my hair she did not drape me with a gown so my arms and legs were covered in hair! I asked her if she could get me something to wipe the hair off she had the courage to say "There is a lint roller in the closet (and pointed)!" What was the supposed exceptional name of the stylist....Alyson. I have paid quite a bit in the past for haircuts at Aveda salons and I have never been disappointed. I was beyond disappointed and will never go back.

  • Pros: Clean and modern
  • Cons: everything else, customer service, color, haircut, lack of skill

Best Color in RI

by HeadT at Citysearch

I am so happy to have moved back to RI for color with Kris at Salon Marc Harris. She is not only a talented colorist, but just a cool person. I had gone to her first about a year ago when on school rotations in RI and right away she made my blonde hair perfect. She knows exactly how to make my blonde look shiny and vibrant without making it look fake or overdone. I just came back after being gone for over a year and she had remembered exactly who I was and still had my last coloring recorded! She really cares about her clients and is fun to hang out. The salon itself is great too - very modern and luxurious without any pretentiousness. Very easy to relax in while getting your hair done. Def check out Kris at Marc Harris!

  • Pros: Kris coloring skills, relaxing salon
  • Cons: none

Great Atmosphere! Feels like NY.

by Provchick1980 at Citysearch

I have been to this salon 3 times now, and my stylist Jonathan is terrific. He always remembers what we talked about at the last visit (i swear he keeps notes!) and our conversation flows through the entire cut. Great cappuchinos too, and their shampoo-ers are fantastic, They deserve way more credit/tips then I am sure they get. The prices are reasonable.. Jonathan charges me $80 per cut and style. I have never had anyone do color there for me though. Great customer service and a fun atmosphere for sure. My negatives would be that I wish stylists there would spend a little more time actually styling your new do after the cut. Most salons will have you leaving like a superstar, where this one, the cut is AMAZING, but I feel I can style is just the same on my own. Isn't the first day of a new style supposed to be the best? They don't use much product either.. Parking is annoying-risk a ticket or pay to park.. but aside from that, I would say you will leave satisfied and feel it was very worth it.

  • Pros: cust service / shampoo-scalp massagers / atmosphere
  • Cons: parking / lack of time and product used to style after your new "do"

Ok

by snowbirde at Citysearch

I went to Salon Mark Harris after a recommendation. Although it was not a disaster, for the price you are paying you should leave feeling like a million. On the occasion I went their I have to say I left feeling just ok, not great about the experience. The decor is high end and trendy although minimalism seems to have won out over creature comforts (ie. no tables to rest your beverage or magazines to read in the waiting area.) I can not remember my stylists name, and the haircut he gave me was also not memorable. I went in looking for a change, something creative - I even brought in an inspiration picture. Upon showing him he mumbled something inaudible. I am a pretty trusting person and felt that after I discussed that I wanted something creative and showed him an example he would get it. Not the case, he gave me a boring haircut that was pretty much the cookie cutter long layer cut he probably gave 10 times that day. I have to say...HE IN NO WAY MADE ME LOOK BAD, this was a technically good cut, I even got compliments. However when you go in expecting a change and you wind up with the same old, same old its a bit frustrating. In all fairness I should have said something but I felt slightly intimidated for some reason. This would be a good place to go if you are looking for a safe bet and nothing too different.

  • Pros: Technically Skillful
  • Cons: Felt that the stylist didn't listen

Great Color

by prattst at Citysearch

I have tried many salons in Providence and I have to say I got the best cut and color at Salon Marc Harris. I highly recommend Steven Doherty - he made the experience fun and he knew exactly what to do with my hair. It is a little pricey - but well worth it.

  • Pros: Great Atmosphere

"Best Hairsalon in RI"

by betty411 at Citysearch

I just want to say that Salon Marc Harris is the most professional salon in Providence. The staff there are extremely friendly and professional. Every experience I have had there by far is the best. This salon deserves the "Best of " every year. The creativity by Jonathan is superb to no other. His skill is precise and professional and can execute an amazing cut to suite anyone. I must also inquire about Marc Harris himself. This man is so talented from what I can see while getting my hair cut. He is so full of energy and confidence. And last but not least the receptionist Tiffany is so willing to accomadate the customer and make their life easier when booking appointments. I think Salon Marc Harris is the best thing that has come to providence in a very long, long time. Thank you Salon Marc Harris.

A respecting customer!

by travel123 at Citysearch

I have been going to salon Marc Harris since it took over the former Lumiere last spring. I was also I client of the rather reputable Lumiere where I still see the same stylist , Christy Lee under the new ownership. I I see her for cut and color and so do two other women in my office. I couldn`t be happier with my services and was appaulled at the explicite attack on my salon and my stylist. Being in the service industry myself I know it is impossible to please everyone, some are more difficult than others! I myself change my hairstyle seasonally and I am always satisfied with my alterations! Christy is very explanitory and exueds experience. I would recommend Salon Marc Harris in Providence to anyone to try! All the stylists in there are always pleasant and from my observations very talented. I travel alot and visit many salons for treatments and blowouts in my travels. I recently visited Salon Marc Harris in Boston which I found to be just as humble as Providence. An upscale/humble atmosphere is hard to come by!

  • Pros: Experianced trendy staff
  • Cons: Parking downcity
