Best restaurant on Federal Hill. My family and I went to Walter's this past weekend. It was phenomenal. I can't say enough about this place. The food was exceptional, the service was terrific. My waitress, I think her name was Kati was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the food and wine. The recommendations she made were appreciated by all, especially the Goat Cheese appetizer served in a little clay dish, piping hot with marinara sauce and crostini. The Fried Calamari dish had shrimp and scallops in it too. What a bonus.

When my family comes to visit me in Providence I always want to take them to a great restaurant. This, by far is the best and most authentic Italian Food in Providence. Hey, the Chef even has an Italian accent. He came over to the table and gave all of us tricolor pasta for us to try. Again, delicious. I highly recommend Walter's Ristorante to anyone who wants to have a delicious meal in a warm and friendly place. I felt as comfortable as I would have at home. Doesn't get better than that.

Historic, Jewish-influenced Italian cuisine is baked in pots at this cozy restaurant.. The Scene
Ever wonder about the recipes brought to Italy by Jewish immigrants after the Spanish Inquisition? You've come to the right place. Walter's specializes in cuisine with an Italian-Jewish pedigree. The adventure begins on the second floor, where the warm interior of rich reds and exposed brick will make you feel like you're back in the old country. Fortunately, the down-to-earth waitstaff also double as translators.

The Food
It's hard to believe, but this flavorful food is cooked without extra fat. The secret is in the restaurant's trademark use of unglazed terra-cotta pots, a technique that predates the Roman empire. Try an Italian Renaissance selection of farfalle pasta with pancetta, roasted chicken and peppers, topped with Gorgonzola cheese and fresh basil. Want something more contemporary? Go with the pork fillet served with extra-large asparagus tips and apple-cinnamon sweet potatoes.
