Great Unique Sandwiches in an eclectic atmosphere

by CityGuy

I've been going to Geoffs for at least 30 years and first visited it as a kid in the 70s when my parents would stop in to pick up some sandwiches and I would get to pick the complimentary sour pickles from the barrel in the center of the store.

Geoff's is unique and is not your run of the mill sandwhich shop. A great selection of unique sandwiches is their claim to fame over the past several decades. There is no comparison

My favorite is the BFS with extra hot sauce. I like it because it has a bit of everything.

Don't Order a Reuben!!

by HouseatThePier

If you anticipate a nicely grilled, brown on the outside and warm and melty on the inside, Reuben, you are not going to get it here. Mine arrived on stale bread, a nice amount of (ice cold) corned beef - solid slice of ice cold cheese, cold sauerkraut and ice cold thousand island dressing. I was starving, and I ate it, but it was the worst Reuben I've ever encountered. I blew a ton of calories on that sandwich, which I will have to regret, but I'll get over it. Not sure it worth the money either - a lot of corned beef on stale bread is not what I had in mind for today's lunch. Just wanted to get it off my chest. I called to complain. All I was told was "we heated the corned beef and cheese". NOT! Will not order food from there again unless I get an apology from the manager/owner. HouseAtThePier

Hip, funky, young and spunky, this is the place for an extroverted sandwich experience.

The Scene
If you're looking for a place to anonymously pick up lunch, Geoff's probably shouldn't be first on your list. The feisty young staff--usually students from nearby Brown or RISD--is quick to pick up on the vibe if you're feeling particularly shy or meek. Watch out, your order may spark an impromptu comedy sketch.

The Food
If you can survive the innocent haranguing, you'll be rewarded with sandwiches so meat-packed that they're difficult to bite into. Creative sandwich names like the Kiss, Wacko or the Juggs practically beg for your selection, and psyche, to be analyzed. A safer bet may be to simply pick one of the sandwiches named for a local celebrity; try the tribute to the mayor or the governor, made with cold turkey and hot pastrami.

Not so superlative

by RPleasants

The pickle barrel was a nice touch, but in general, I wasn't overly impressed with the sandwiches.
